Medical Director

 Donald M. Gammel, MD, FAADEP, CIME

Dr. GammelDr. Gammel received a Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and completed a general medical surgical internship in 1968. Dr. Gammel served in Vietnam as squadron surgeon and earned the Bronze Star. He then served as the Chief of General Medical Clinics at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. Dr. Gammel returned to the Midwest in 1970 and entered private practice for 21 years practicing family medicine, including obstetrics, and general surgery.

In 1991 he became the Medical Director of Occupational Medicine at Alegent Health Immanuel Medical Center. From 1993 to 2000, he was Section Chief of Occupational Medicine at St. Joseph Hospital and in 1999 was appointed Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at Creighton University School of Medicine. Dr. Gammel also served as the Medical Director of Occupational Medicine for Concentra Medical Centers in Omaha, and since 1991 he has owned and been the President of Disability Evaluation Services, now WorkFit, Inc.

 Dr. Gammel is a certified Fellow and member of both the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians and the American Board of Independent Medical Evaluators. He serves as an Independent Medical Examiner for the Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Court. Dr. Gammel’s areas of expertise include occupational medicine, independent medical examinations, disability evaluations and impairment ratings.

Thomas E. Dunbar, MD

Thomas Dunbar, MDDr. Dunbar received his Medical Degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center followed by the completion of a Rotating Surgical Internship. For 17 years Dr. Dunbar was the Director of the Archbishop Bergan Mercy Emergency Department and was the Associate Director for 11 years prior. Dr. Dunbar has over 35 years of injury care experience and started the Bergan Occupational Health Program in 1986. Dr. Dunbar is a Board Certified lifetime member of the American Academy of Occupational Medicine, Board Certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and distinguished as a Fellow by the American College of Emergency Medicine and as Diplomat by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Dunbar has provided physician services to underserved rural health clinics and has taught students from both UNMC and Creighton medical colleges.


Jose R. Novoa, MD

Jose R. Novoa, MD Dr. Novoa  earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Docortate of Medicine from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He spent three years as Active Duty Military Staff Physician in the Air Force before returning to Omaha in 1991 where he served as a Physician in the emergency rooms at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, Alegent Bergan Mercy Medical Center, and at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Novoa has over 30 years of experience in injury care and emergency medicine.  He is Board Certified and fluent in Spanish. He is an active member in the American Medical Association, Metropolitan Omaha Medical Association, Nebraska Medical Association, and the American Association of Physician Specialists.



Joseph R. Martinak, MD

Jopseph Martinak, MDDr. Martinak is originally from New York where he attended Rutgers University for his Pre-Med degree and received his Doctorate of Medicine from New York State University. His distinguished career has included over 25 years in Family Practice and Emergency Medicine before joining the staff at Alegent Occupational Health Services. Dr. Martinak has worked in Occupational Medicine for the last 10 years. He is a member of the American Medical Association, is Board Certified and a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians, Charter Member in the American College of Emergency Medicine, and a Research Fellow at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. Dr. Martinak is on the teaching staff at UNMC, and is an affiliate on the staff at Immanuel, Midlands and Bergan Mercy. He has authored five articles in nationally recognized medical journals. Dr. Martinak brings vast occupational medicine experience as well as family and emergency medical expertise to a like-minded clinic.


Walter S. Wood, MD

Walter Wood, MDDr. Wood earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the Univerity of California at Los Angeles. From there, he went on to pursue his Doctorate of Medicine from St. George's University School of Medicine in the West Indies, while completing his clinical rotations in the United States. Dr. Wood completed a Family Medicine Residency as well as a Rural Fellowship through the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Since then, he has served as a physician at Nebraska Medicine in Bellevue, Jenny Edmundson Hospital and Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, and at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American Association of Family Physicians, and the Christian Medical and Dental Association. Dr. Wood is Board Certified in Emergency and Family Medicine and brings over 20 years of experience to the clinic.


Gabriela Vogel, PT, DPT, CEAS, Director of Physical Therapy

Gabriela Vogel, DPTGabriela Vogel, a native of Durango, Mexico, completed her undergraduate studies at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa.  She went on to recieve her Doctorate in Physical Thereapy at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 2010, where she was honored with the Multicultural and Community Affairs Award.  She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and Iowa Physical Therapy Association.  She is a Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist and a Functional Capacity Evaluator.  In her free time Gabriela enjoys spending time with her husband and their 5 dogs.




Christina Hensley, PTA, CEAS, CEES

Christina Hensley, PTA

Christina earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Science from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa and an Associate Degree in Science as a physical Therapist Assistant from Clarkson College in Omaha, Nebraska.  Christina is a Certified Ergonomic Evaluation Specialist which is recognized in North America, United Kingdom, Asia and Africa and is also a Certified Ergononmic Assessment Specialist.  In addition, she is certifed in Job Demand Analysis, Musculoskeletal Screening, Ergonomics and OSHA 30 Hour for General Industry.  Christina also provides education on soft tissue injury prevention and proper body mechanics in various industrial and office settings.  Before joining WorkFit, she workded as a caregiver for the Nebraska Health and Human Services Department and as a Lab Tech at a laboratory here in Nebraska.  When Christina is not working, she enjoys recreational sports and spending time with her husband and dog Willow.


Holly Hollenbeck, JD (Director, Work Comp Consultant)

Holly HollenbeckA graduate of Creighton University with a Bachelor’s of Science  Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate, Holly practiced law for over 10 years – first at Cassem, Tierney Law Firm doing worker’s compensation, medical malpractice, and personal injury defense; and then at CSG Systems as Corporate Counsel. In 2002, Holly left the formal practice of law to run The Attitude Authority doing public speaking, writing, and marketing. Holly joined WorkFit in 2009 as director of the marketing and business development department.





Medical Legal Department

WorkFit LNCs have Legal Nurse Consulting Certification (LNCC®) from the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants which is accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties and are members of the AALNC. WorkFit’s LNCs have extensive clinical, legal, and insurance experience.

Patti Kreikemeier, RN, LNCC, CLCP

Patti KreikemeierPatti received her nursing degree from the College of Saint Mary in 1976. She has clinical experience in hospital medical-surgical, pediatric nursing, family practice, and health information resource and triage. Patti has over 20 years experience as a legal nurse consultant.  She entered the field of legal nurse consulting in 1996 while employed for a law firm specializing in medical malpractice and personal injury. In 2004 Patti began her career at Workfit as a legal nurse consultant in the proactice of Independent Medical Examination and has been certified by the American Legal Nurse Consultant Certification Board since 2004. She enjoys traveling to the cities of Washington D.C., Chicago and Lawrence to visit her children and grandchildren.  Patti's extra time is occupied with fitness instruction and gym ownership.


Connie Bergman-Palmer, RN, LNCC

Connie Bergman-PalmerConnie graduated from Blessing Hospital School of Nursing in 1973. She practiced hospital medical-surgical nursing, neonatal intensive care, pharmacy, allergy, and otorhinolaryngology.  From 1986 until 1996, Connie worked as an LNC at a law firm. In 1996, Connie started her own LNC business and was among the charter group to achieve Legal Nurse Consultant Certification in 1998. In 2002, Connie went to work as a state regulator of long term care and assisted living facilities and was a CMS federally certified Nursing Services Surveyor and Investigator. Connie joined Workfit in 2009 and has over 20 years of clinical experience and 23 years as an LNC.


Gabriela Vogel, DPT, Director of Physical Therapy

Gabriela Vogel, DPT Gabriela Vogel completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Creighton University in 2010. Prior to earning her doctorate, she graduated from Dordt College with a Bachelor of Exercise Science Degree with a Minor in Psychology. In 2010, she was honored with the Multicultural and Community Affairs Award and the Physical Therapy Leadership Guild Award. Gabriela's experience as a physical therapist includes Hallmark Rehabilitation, One World Community Center, Excell and Workfit. She is fluent in Spanish.
