 Donald M. Gammel, MD, FAADEP, CIME

Dr. GammelDr. Gammel received a Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and completed a general medical surgical internship in 1968. Dr. Gammel served in Vietnam as squadron surgeon and earned the Bronze Star. He then served as the Chief of General Medical Clinics at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. Dr. Gammel returned to the Midwest in 1970 and entered private practice for 21 years practicing family medicine, including obstetrics, and general surgery.

In 1991 he became the Medical Director of Occupational Medicine at Alegent Health Immanuel Medical Center. From 1993 to 2000, he was Section Chief of Occupational Medicine at St. Joseph Hospital and in 1999 was appointed Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at Creighton University School of Medicine. Dr. Gammel also served as the Medical Director of Occupational Medicine for Concentra Medical Centers in Omaha, and since 1991 he has owned and been the President of Disability Evaluation Services, now WorkFit, Inc.

 Dr. Gammel is a certified Fellow and member of both the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians and the American Board of Independent Medical Evaluators. He serves as an Independent Medical Examiner for the Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Court. Dr. Gammel’s areas of expertise include occupational medicine, independent medical examinations, disability evaluations and impairment ratings.


Rebecca Jackson, RN, BSN, LNCC

Rebecca Jackson VPPrior to entering nursing, Rebecca spent 20 years working in the insurance industry. She was a business owner and then Vice President of Administration for a large insurance company. She graduated from Nebraska Methodist College with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing in 1992 and began clinical practice in pediatric, orthopedics, neurology, and also has became involved with legal nurse consulting for what is now known as WorkFit. She developed WorkFit’s Medical Legal Department and has 20 years of experience as a Legal Nurse Consultant. She is a certified LNC and a member of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants and is an owner and the Vice President and Practice Administrator for WorkFit.


Jose R. Novoa, MD

Jose R. Novoa, MD Dr. Novoa is an Omaha native and attended Westside High and Creighton University earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Doctorate of Medicine. He spent three years as Active Duty Military Staff Physician in the Air Force before returning to Omaha in 1991 to serve as Physician in the emergency rooms at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, Alegent Bergan Mercy Medical Center, and at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Novoa has over 20 years of injury care and emergency medicine experience and is board certified. Dr. Novoa practices Occupational Medicine in WorkFit's Clinic and is an Independent Medical Examiner in the Medical-Legal Department. Dr. Novoa is also fluent in Spanish.


Thomas Dunbar, MD

Thomas Dunbar, MDDr. Dunbar received his Medical Degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center followed by the completion of a Rotating Surgical Internship. For 17 years Dr. Dunbar was the Director of the Archbishop Bergan Mercy Emergency Department and was the Associate Director for the 11 years prior. Dr. Dunbar has over 35 years of injury care experience including having started the Bergan Occupational Health Program in 1986. Dr. Dunbar is a board certified lifetime member of the American Academy of Occupational Medicine, board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and distinguished as a Fellow by the American College of Emergency Medicine and as Diplomat by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Dunbar has provided physician services to underserved rural health clinics and has taught students from both UNMC and Creighton medical colleges.


Joseph Martinak, MD

Jpseph Martinak, MD Dr. Martinak is originally from New York and attended Rutgers University for his Pre-Med degree and his received his Doctorate of Medicine from New York State University. His distinguished career has included over 25 years in Family Practice and Emergency Medicine before joining the staff at Alegent Occupational Health Services. Dr. Martinak has worked in Occupational Medicine for the last seven years. He is member in the American Medical Association, Board Certified and a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians, Charter Member in the American College of Emergency Medicine, and a Research Fellow at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. Dr. Martinak is also on the teaching staff at UNMC, and is an affiliate on the staff at Immanuel, Midlands and Bergan Mercy. He has also authored five articles in nationally recognized medical journals. Dr. Martinak brings vast occupational medicine experience as well as family and emergency medical expertise to a like-minded clinic.



WorkFit Legal Nurse Consultants

WorkFit LNCs have Legal Nurse Consulting Certification (LNCC®) from the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants which is accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties and are members of the AALNC. WorkFit’s LNCs have extensive clinical, legal, and insurance experience.

Patti Kreikemeier, RN, LNCC, CLCP

Patti KreikemeierPatti received her nursing degree from the College of Saint Mary in 1976. She has clinical experience in hospital medical-surgical, pediatric nursing, family practice office nursing, Ask-A-Nurse triage, and was a hospital nurse representative. In 1996, Patti began work as an LNC at a law firm specializing in medical malpractice and personal injury. In 2006, she was certified as a Life Care Planner. Patti joined Workfit in 2003 and has over 20 years of clinical experience and 13 years as an LNC.




Connie Bergman-Palmer, RN, LNCC

Connie Bergman-PalmerConnie graduated from Blessing Hospital School of Nursing in 1973. She practiced hospital medical-surgical nursing, neonatal intensive care, pharmacy, allergy, and otorhinolaryngology.  From 1986 until 1996, Connie worked as an LNC at a law firm. In 1996, Connie started her own LNC business and was among the charter group to achieve Legal Nurse Consultant Certification in 1998. In 2002, Connie went to work as a state regulator of long term care and assisted living facilities and was a CMS federally certified Nursing Services Surveyor and Investigator. Connie joined Workfit in 2009 and has over 20 years of clinical experience and 23 years as an LNC.





Occupational Health Clinic Staff

WorkFit employs a Clinic Manager, certified trained nursing clinicians, radiology technicians, physical therapy staff, and billing staff to support Dr. Gammel’s full service clinic providing complete injury care, physicals, independent medical evaluations, second opinions, medical review of records, impairment ratings, drug screening, back screens, and more.


Danette Lodes,  Project Manager

Danette LodesDanette has extensive experience as a registered radiology technician having worked at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, in clinic labs, and in family practice for over 18 years. She is a member of the American Academy of Professional Coders, is a trained injection administrator, is a Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (audiology tech), is certified in Breath Alcohol and DOT Drug Screening, and is a pulmonary function evaluator (having completed NIOSH-approved Spirometry Testing and Respiratory Surveillance Training). Danette has over 15 years of Occupational Health experience.

Gabriela Vogel, DPT, Director of Physical Therapy

Gabriela Vogel, DPT Gabriela Vogel completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Creighton University in 2010. Prior to earning her doctorate, she graduated from Dordt College with a Bachelor of Exercise Science Degree with a Minor in Psychology. In 2010, she was honored with the Multicultural and Community Affairs Award and the Physical Therapy Leadership Guild Award. Gabriela's experience as a physical therapist includes Hallmark Rehabilitation, One World Community Center, Excell and Workfit. She is fluent in Spanish.

 Christina Hensley, PTA

Christina Hensley, PTA

Christina graduated on the Dean's List from Clarkson College in August of 2011. Prior to that, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Science from Briar-Cliff University where she was also on the Dean's List. Christina gained valuable experience as a PTA at Foot and Ankle Specialists and also at Community Rehab. Previously, she worked as a Caregiver for the Nebraska Health and Human Services Department and as a Lab Tech for Midwest Laboratories. Christina has been trained and certified in Job Demand Analysis and Musculoskelatal Screening in addition to her injury rehabilitation expertise.

Elaine Cockrell, Clinic Billing and Accounting

Elaine CockrellElaine worked in the Business and Administration offices at Creighton University Hospital for 40 years handling billing and insurance. Since 2008, Elaine manages WorkFit Occupational Health clinic billing and collections.


Sonya Baker, MA

Sonya Baker

Sonya graduated from Vatterott College in 2006 with an Associates degree in Medical Assisting.  She is certified to do breath alcohol tests and DOT drug screens.  She has been with WorkFit since 2006 working in the clinic with patients and in the front office.




Danica Clardy, MA

Danica Clardy

Danica graduated from Vaterott College in 2010 with an Associates degree in Medical
Assisting. She does limited radiology and is certified in CPR. She worked in family
medicine for about a year before joining the WorkFit team. Danica works in the clinic with patients and in the front office. She has been with WorkFit since 2012.

 Jeff Brothen,  IT Administrator

Jeffrey Brothen IT

Currently the IT Administrator at WorkFit, he brings a varied background to the company including being a college teacher for 10 years; a classical music announcer for 4 years; and a head hunter for the banking industry. Previous IT work includes various infrastructure and programming duties at public radio station KFJM in North Dakota and at Florida State University. 




Holly Hollenbeck, JD (Director, Work Comp Consultant)

Holly HollenbeckA graduate of Creighton University with a Bachelor’s of Science  Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate, Holly practiced law for over 10 years – first at Cassem, Tierney Law Firm doing worker’s compensation, medical malpractice, and personal injury defense; and then at CSG Systems as Corporate Counsel. In 2002, Holly left the formal practice of law to run The Attitude Authority doing public speaking, writing, and marketing. Holly joined WorkFit in 2009 as director of the marketing and business development department.
